PRACTICUM DESCRIPTION

The CYHC offers an 8-month practicum for counseling and social work students. Practicum students will work with a diverse range of youth between the ages of 12-26. Students will work one-on-one with youth by conducting 50-minute counseling sessions. CYHC counseling is available in-person and remotely through phone and Zoom. Students will also be provided opportunities to work with groups of youth in various settings. Opportunities are available for CYHC students to provide counseling through other organizations and non-profits in Chilliwack, such as the SD33 school district. The CYHC provides training to students virtually and in-person through Bullpen supervision, weekly trainings, and workshops. Students will be presented with opportunities for career growth by engaging with and making connections in local community organizations. Applicants with diverse backgrounds and/or are based in the Fraser Valley are strongly encouraged to apply.

 

HOURS

It is expected that Counseling practicum students are on site a minimum of 2-3 days a week. The CYHC is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1-7pm. Students are recommended to have a Class 5 BC Driver’s License (or out of province equivalent). Supervision will take place in-person through the CYHC bullpen and supervisor offices, and remotely through Zoom.

ELIGIBILITY AND APPLICATION PROCESS
